If you're on my page, then you've taken the first steps to better sleep for you and your family!
I know this is hard; you're sleep deprived, you're not quite sure how things got so bad,
or maybe you're just intrigued.
Either way, I'm here to make things clearer.
Start with your free 10 minute consultation and we can go from there.
It's a tough decision to make choosing between sleep schools and sleep consultants.
Essentially they have the same knowledge in teaching your little ones to sleep, but it's up to you how you'd like to proceed.
Sleep school is covered by private health insurance whereas sleep consultants are not, so that usually is a deciding factor for a lot of parents. Although having a consultant is considerably cheaper.
For me though, it was a conscious decision to be a sleep consultant after seeing first hand how many of my friends and family regressed once they were back home. That's because sleep school did all the work for them while they there but then didn't have a support period once they came back home, nor teach them what to do as their child got older (needing routine changes) or went through developmental regressions.
I work with you to customise a sleep plan for your child that is completely personalised to them.
I don't have a 'one size fits all' approach to any client. Instead, I listen to you, and together, we go over every detail so that I have a complete picture before putting together a plan that suits you, your family and parenting philosophy.
I know that there is lots of resources out there that promise you sleep for your little one, but they are generic and generalised. I find that they give many parents anxiety when their child doesn't fit the mould or do what they book says to do. My experience allows me to filter through many routine timings and methods to make it work for your family. And along the way, my support period means that I am there with you every step of the way for encouragement, support and troubleshooting.
As mentioned earlier, even with the difference between sleep schools and sleep consultants - we all have learnt the same theories, and of course experience is handy too.
I truly believe that any consultant you hire will help you; if you remain consistent to your plan.
What I do differently though, and this I believe is my major point of difference; is that I offer you a discharge summary as an addition to any personalised sleep plan once we have finished working together..
I am the only sleep consultant to do this and the idea is mine entirely.
As well as being a sleep consultant, I work in a public hospital in the pharmacy department.
While a patient is in hospital, their medications are entirely managed and administered by the nursing staff. When they are discharged, our pharmacy department puts together a list of all their medications detailing what they are for and how to take them so they know what to do when they leave the hospital. This was my lightbulb moment that made me realise "this is why some people failed when they came home from sleep school!". So this is now what I do; I offer a discharge summary that details routine changes and regressions to come and how to manage them (plus lots more!).
On top of that; all my full packages include unlimited follow up. What that means is that you can literally contact me ALL DAY AND NIGHT, as many times as you want. Your child doesn't understand business hours and I'm sure if I put restrictions on when you can contact me, you'll definitely need me outside of those hours which will set you up for failure; so I'm always here for you.
I work with parents while they are still expecting to parents who have children of preschool age. I have packages that cater to all, and if need be, can adjust them to suit your needs.
When you have decided to work with me, you need to be 100% consistent, committed and calm. I call these my 3 C's and they are detailed in my requirements and expectations that I send to every client before we start working together.
That is entirely up to you and what you are comfortable with. In home consultations mean that I am there with you to walk you through the chosen method. It also means that I get to see your childs room first hand and help make sure that it is SIDS safe and sleep ready.
Every single child cries. From when they take their first breath to when they fall down. From when they feel sad, angry, hurt, overwhelmed, tired, hungry and even happy.
This is how a child communicates.
One thing to note is that I am whole heartedly against Cry It Out, and I would never recommend this method to any client.
A lot of parents want no cry solutions to their child's sleep problems, and while I am respectful of that, I always manage my clients expectations. No matter how gentle a method we pursue, your child will cry. Crying is your child's way of protesting change. You're teaching them something different to what they know - you assisting them to sleep every single time. Even though we are supportive and guiding them gently with the changes to their sleep habits that brought you to work with me; there still will be some crying as they learn to sleep independently.
